Table1

Experimentally described transcription factor binding sites. All the Pho4p binding sites have been characterized by deletion or DNA footprinting experiments (Oshima et al., 1996). Similar experiments have been carried out to detect the binding sites of Met4p-Met28p-Cbf1p in MET16, MET17 (Thomas & Surdin-Kerjan, 1997) and of Met31p/Met32p in MET17 (Thomas & Surdin-Kerjan, 1997), MET28 (Blaiseau & Thomas, 1998) and MET14 (Korch et al., 1991). Indications that other genes possess also such binding sites came from the observation that they are co-regulated in Met4p mutant, they are involved in methionine biosynthesis and they have a putative binding sites either for Met4p-Met28p-Cbf1p or Met31p/Met32p or both (Korch et al., 1991; Thomas & Surdin-Kerjan, 1997; Blaiseau et al., 1997; Blaiseau & Thomas, 1998).
